Adventures on four paws – a pet-friendly ski holiday

You love skiing, your dog loves snow – sounds like the perfect combination for a pet-friendly ski holiday. At the Ziach & Candy, you don’t have to choose between time on the slopes and time with your dog, because we’re located very close to the piste. That means you can clip into your skis, head out, and pop back to your room whenever you like, enjoying the day at your own pace. Flexible, uncomplicated, and close to nature. While you’re out on the mountain, your dog can rest comfortably in your room, and when it’s time for winter walkies, you’re off exploring together again. Active days, fresh air, and time shared – that’s what it’s all about.

Winter hiking with your dog – where the paws go, the heart follows.

Although dogs are not allowed on the ski slopes for obvious safety reasons, there is a wonderful alternative: winter walking trails around the hotel, with clear mountain air, crisp snow underfoot, and the simple joy of discovering the landscape together. The reception team will be happy to share their tips for dog-friendly walking routes. Your dog will almost certainly thank you for it – usually with a nose in the snow and a wagging tail. On a pet-friendly ski holiday, everyone gets their share of winter happiness.

Paw care in winter – because we care

Dogs’ paws need a little extra attention in winter. Grit, road salt, and ice can irritate or dry out sensitive paw pads. After each walk, it’s a good idea to rinse your dog’s paws briefly in lukewarm water and apply a little paw balm if needed. Ice can also collect between the toes, so it’s worth checking and removing any clumps before they become uncomfortable. And if your dog likes eating snow, remember: a little is usually fine, but too much can upset the stomach. Fresh water is the better option – and the bowl is ready and waiting in your room. Pet-friendly ski holidays at their finest!

Speaking of pet-friendly ski holidays: can dogs actually ski?

No. Dogs may have four legs, but they are still missing a few essential skiing skills – edge control, carving technique, and any real understanding of why anyone would willingly throw themselves down a mountain. There have, apparently, been experiments with dog skis in the United States, but the dogs themselves were not especially impressed. What dogs do wonderfully on a ski holiday in Austria, however, is enjoy the snow: racing through it, chasing snowballs, and joining you on long winter walks. That’s their version of a pet-friendly ski holiday: all the enthusiasm, just without the skis.

New name, same warm welcome

Hotel Gratz is now Ziach & Candy. And yes, there’s a bit of a love story behind the name. A nod to Florian’s music that keeps spirits high in the evenings. To Daniela’s cakes and sweet treats that make afternoons that little bit better. To Maria and Sepp, who started it all. And to you, because you keep coming back to see us. The name may have changed, but the heart of the place hasn’t – still right here in the middle of the Großarltal valley.
