Austria: your walking holidays
What kind of hiker are you?
Early riser or leisurely walker? Summit seeker or wildlife watcher? At our hiking hotel in Grossarl, every guided hike has its own character. For guests planning to visit Austria for walking holidays, it’s a place where every path leads to a different experience.
- Wildlife hikes bring you close to chamois and marmots
- Sunrise hikes take you high above the valley before the world wakes up
- Culinary hikes lead to Alpine huts where cheese is still made by hand
- Summit hikes are there to challenge you
A hiking holiday in Austria means there is something for everyone – but always with the feeling of setting out together.
Wildlife, summit, and culinary hikes – find your rhythm.
- Wildlife hikes: Start early, keep quiet, and keep your eyes open. Florian knows the places where the chamois graze and the marmots whistle. Bring your binoculars, take your time, and enjoy the wonder of it. In Austria on a walking holiday in the Grossarltal valley, your hotel is surrounded by the unspoilt landscape of the Hohe Tauern National Park – one of the rare places where wildlife can still be observed in its natural habitat.
- Sunrise hikes: Up at 4:30 a.m., head torches on, and we’re off towards the summit. Daniela leads you to viewpoints where the first light turns the national park into pure gold. Breathe in the clear air and feel wide awake as you move through the mountains – this is hiking at its most beautiful.
- Culinary hikes: A gentler pace, with rustic Alpine huts and homemade cheese. Maria knows the hut hosts personally and will show you where they still make Kaiserschmarrn (torn pancakes) according to the traditional recipe. The Grossarltal valley is home to more than 40 managed Alpine huts, and we’ll show you the ones where craftsmanship is still part of everyday life.
- Summit hikes: Steeper climbs, effort, and the summit cross at the top. Sepp, a passionate mountaineer and hiker, leads you to peaks you might never have attempted on your own. Here, the mountains, the lakes, and the landscape reveal their full intensity up close.
